Life of the Friars, Life of the Friary

St Francis Friary in Syracuse, NY is a community of 9 Franciscan friars serving the people of Syracuse.

The St Francis Friary of Syracuse, New York is a community of nine Franciscan friars of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. The brothers, most of whom are priests, live in community, sharing living space, meals, and daily prayers together in the spirit of their founder and patron, St Francis of Assisi. The friary is the oldest of its order in the Americas, having been founded in the 1850s by friars from Germany. Today, though it houses fewer friars than it was intended for it, it still maintains a significant presence in the Syracuse community through various ministries throughout the area such as the SU Catholic chaplaincy, a food pantry, Franciscan Northside Ministries, and a small chapel and book store in Destiny Mall known as the Franciscan Place.
